Yoga classes with me help develop physical and mental strength, flexibility, and release deeply held tension. We work with slow dynamic movements, staying in selected postures (adapting them to suit you where helpful), and working closely with your breathing. These yoga classes are designed to help you improve your overall wellbeing, awareness, the ability to relax and to become more centred.
These enjoyable classes encourage students to work to their own ability and level of fitness. To encourage each student to get the most from yoga the classes provide optional challenges as your yoga practice develops, or modifications for safety and if you have any limitations of issues.
A good class for both beginners and those who want to learn more and deepen their yoga practice. My teaching is based on the principles of viniyoga with a focus on primary dynamic hatha yoga postures.
I also teach pregnancy yoga, and am a yoga therapist working with individuals to help a wide range of health conditions.
Each yoga class develops over the term, giving you a good understanding and foundation in each new theme. Here is what some of my students have said about the yoga classes.
- "Brilliant classes, essential weekly de-stress."
- "I have felt stronger after classes and fro days afterwards."
- "This term has been fabulous"
- "I have enjoyed the classes and benefitted greatly."
Clara's background
Yoga Training
I've been practising yoga since 1998 and studied to become a yoga teacher and yoga therapist under Paul Harvey. Paul is one of the UK's foremost authorities on yoga with over 25 years studying in India directly with TKV Desikachar.
My yoga teacher training was an in-depth 4-year yoga training course and I have a yoga teaching diploma from the Centre for Yoga Studies, accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga (the governing body for Yoga in the UK to maintain high quality teaching standards).
I've also completed specialist training in
- Pregnancy Yoga and Post-Natal Yoga
- and also in Yoga for Children
Professional Affiliations
I'm a teaching member of the British Wheel of Yoga, a teaching member of the Association for Yoga Studies and qualified as a Yoga Therapist to the level required by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.
I'm committed to continuing my yoga studies and take regular continuing professional development training and also participate in yoga community activities to further develop my knowledge and experience. I'm also registered with the British Wheel of Yoga South West: http://www.bwysouthwest.org.uk/
Yoga Experience
I've explored different yoga traditions including viniyoga, Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga, and what is known generally as hatha yoga. The approach that I teach is a dynamic form of hatha yoga called viniyoga (in the tradition of Krishnamacharya) which has an emphasis on maximising each posture by adjusting it to each person's capability and working closely with the breath to deepen the practice.
I teach pregnancy yoga having undertaken specialist training and am also an experienced Yoga Therapist.
Yoga Therapy
I'm an experienced and practical yoga teacher and yoga therapist and have worked with a wide-range of students and health conditions applying the tools of yoga. I'm also fully trained and experienced in working in a range of therapeutic situations and have worked successfully with people with back issues, health-recovery after illness, pregnancy and post-natal, coping with anxiety and a wide range of other conditions.
