My yoga classes - for all levels including beginners - tend to be dynamic and focus on gradually developing strength and flexibility. I adapt the postures to the level of each individual student and offer modifications where necessary. I believe that yoga can be of benefit to everyone, regardless of ability, age and level of fitness, and welcome people of all backgrounds to my classes.
As well as postures (asanas), my classes often include breathing exercises (pranayama), relaxation and meditative practices, integrated with elements of yogic philosophy. My yoga classes emphasise the link between mind and body and how yoga can bring benefits to life beyond the mat, especially in terms of improving health and combatting stress.
My influences are Ashtanga yoga in particular, but also the Satyananda yoga and Iyengar yoga traditions. I teach three yoga classes at Yoga Space: two general hatha yoga classes and a pregnancy yoga class. The pregnancy yoga class is intended to create a welcoming and calming space to prepare students physically and mentally for birth through postures, breathing exercises, relaxation - and meditation if desired.
I've been practising yoga for over 30 years, including Ashtanga yoga for the past nine years, studying with Christopher Gladwell in Bristol. I have been teaching since 2007 and have a teaching diploma from the British Wheel of Yoga. I trained to teach the Ashtanga primary series, having studied with respected teacher David Swenson
I regularly attend yoga workshops and classes to develop and inform my teaching and have studied with renowned teachers including Danny Paradise, Nancy Gilgoff, Lino Miele, John Scott (link http://www.stillpointyoga.co.nz/) and Sri K Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga. I'm a specialist in pregnancy yoga trianed through the Life Centre in London (Yogacampus), having trained with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.
