About Joanna's class
Classes begin with a sequence of simple poses, moving towards more challenging ones and finishing with a restorative pose. Each class is different, which means you get a balanced practice, regularly working all the muscles in the body.

Classes are both energising and restorative, resulting in you feeling lighter and calmer as you walk out the door.

General level classes are suitable for people of all levels of ability and experience, and for those looking to refresh their practice. We build on the fundamentals of yoga, moving towards more challenging poses, creating greater understanding, strength and stability. When appropriate, supports are used to enable students with different levels of experience to gain the most benefit from the pose. Included are Pranayama (breath work) and Restorative practices

Intermediate classes are for those with an established regular Iyengar yoga practice. Poses and instructions are more dynamic and students are expected to be able to maintain a practice of Sirsasana and  Sarvangasana (head and shoulderstand) or to understand appropriate alternatives. General level students who are looking to deepen their practice are also welcome to attend. Included are Pranayama and Restorative practices.

Training & experience

Qualified Level 1 Iyengar Yoga teacher

I have been practising Iyengar yoga since 2005 and completed an extensive 2-year training under senior teacher, Sheila Haswell in 2017 and have been teaching since then. I have a background in dance but for many years suffered with lower back pain. When I discovered yoga, it became the vehicle through which I was able to heal and nourish myself. The flexibility and ease of movement it brought continues to support all aspects of my life. Having experienced how yoga transformed my life, I felt inspired to train as a teacher and am passionate about passing the benefits onto others.

What I love about Iyengar Yoga is that it can be practiced at whatever level and way is right for you, at this moment. I find it inspiring to see students opening up to yoga in their own way.

I am also fascinated by the connection between body, mind and spirit and yoga allows for all three elements to come together as one. As my own exploration of yoga continues, I hope to pass on to you the profound benefits that yoga offers.
