Consistency in the midst of change ~ Even the roads are unpredictable in my new commute. I got stuck in a cow jam the other day while I was on my way to the studio. The cows couldn't be rushed, they moo'd their way along the road at their own pace towards the dairy. There is a lot to get used to.
There are a very few constants in my life at the moment. So much has changed and this is the adventure of moving to a new place. It is hard work and exciting in equal measure. But the constants that I do have are cherished more than ever. When you need it most My yoga practice is my mainstay. I know I need it, even though time is at a premium and I could really do the other pressing things with it. On the days I'm tempted to skip it or shorten it, I remind myself of how important it is and slow down and sink into it further. I might have otherwise overlooked the fun and joy of the cow jam, and simply sat in frustration and worry over being late had my yoga not worked its magic and gifted me patience and the positive outlook that it nurtures for me. I have learned the hard way that a neglected yoga practice is one that comes at a price. That the issues and pressures only build if not attended to regularly. Neglect comes at a premium If you have the good fortune to have a garden, you'll know only too well that leaving the weeds too long at this time of year, or not water something when it hasn't rained, you've lost something precious. Yoga is like tending the garden. Neglect comes at a premium. Nurtured regularly, the joys are more abundant. Get to your garden this weekend. Get to your yoga regularly. If you have neglected your practice, commit to re-establishing it so that it can bring you the stability and joy that we can take for granted.
