Yoga & meditation - 2 hour monthly sessions

Chris Preist, Yoga teacher, YogaSpace Bishopston
With Chris Preist

This series of evenings of yoga practice with Chris will provide an opportunity for those with some experience of yoga to practice more fully and through this to develop a steadiness and calmness of body and mind.

We will explore the use of the tools of yoga - posture work (asana), breathing practice (pranayama), chanting and meditation - to do this.  Each practice session will finish with a short discussion to support you in carrying some of the principles into your own yoga practice. Attend evenings as single sessions, or take them as a series.
Find out more about Chris Preist here >

Yoga 'nirodha' is the sanskrit term meaning to 'contain' - the calm steadiness of body and mind. The aim of many practices in yoga is to 'contain the unhelpful activities of the mind' (sanskrit: citta vritti nirodha) which according to Pajanjali's yoga sutras is the aim of yoga

How does that relate to yoga classes?
When we come to a yoga class, we are often agitated, stressed, busy, over stimulated, lacking in energy, stiff or in need of support. Through the process of hour or two of yoga practice, the movements and postures (asana), breathwork (pranayama), focused mental attitude (meditation) and chanting, are all there to support reduction in stiffness, disturbance, agitation, and provide enhanced stability of the body, breath and mind. Every class you take should leave you calmer, refreshed, clearer, stronger, and steadier.

These yoga sessions aim to take this further, supporting you to refine and advance your own personal approach to yoga so that your regular group class practice or personal practice is enhanced, your practice is deepened and your benefits more fulfilling.

These evenings will apply the primary tools of yoga practice to bring stability and steadiness to the body and mind (nirodha). Chris Preist is a senior yoga teacher who has been teaching in Bristol for over 20 years and will guide you into refining your posture, breath, meditation and chanting to support yoga nirodha. Take your practice a step further.
