Getting started

Most classes are Open Level Classes that are welcoming to beginners and newcomers at all levels. We offer layers and options in our classes for you to try when your ready, or you can keep it simple to begin with.

Find a time that you can make regularly and aim to come weekly if possible to build on what you learn and gain stability and familiarity in your class.

Tips

1

Book your class online or get in touch if you have questions before coming. You'll be made very welcome and chat to the teacher first to let them know about any injuries or previous experience. We'll find the the right starting point for you and progress your practice so that you become familiar and confident and discover all of the benefits.

2

Classes are booked via the teacher so choose your class and time and get yourself a space.
See the class timetable here >

3

Our classes are suitable for most, no matter what your level of fitness and mobility, experience or body type. Ring if your unsure, or you could start with the Gentle Yoga or Gentle Pilates class or take an initial 1:1 session to get you started.
Each class has a lovely mix of levels so you will feel right at home.

Simply let the teacher know if you are a beginner and about any health issues or injuries before the class starts. You are welcome to ring/email and chat first.

We will add layers of instruction, techniques and suitable challenges when you feel ready and you are always encouraged to work at your own pace and to ask questions before and after the class. This is a friendly, non-competitive, judgement-free space where everyone is welcome.

We will always aim to adapt the practice to anyone who wants to learn. If your unsure, get in touch, sometimes a 1:1 session is a better starting point for you.

Helpful info

Do I need to book?
Please book before you come to reserve your space as we do have a maximum number of students in each class. Booking is directly through the teacher.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. No special kit or clothing needed.

When should I arrive?
Please aim to arrive 10 minutes before the start of the yoga class, especially if it is your first class.

I'm a beginner to yoga, is that okay?
Yes! We teach in small groups and beginners are welcome to start at any time. If the class says it is for Intermediate or Experienced students, these aren't for you (yet!). Everything else is. Please come 10 mins prior to the class start time and let the teacher know you are new. They will give you a few pointers to help you get started.

Do I need to come every week?
Regular practice is ideal. Coming weekly, getting to know your teacher and letting them get to know you will help you gain more from your practice. A teacher who knows you can help you along the way. Come when you can and anything is better than nothing!

How should I pay?
Contact the teacher directly to book your class. Follow the booking links here.

What if I have an injury or health issue?
If you have any health concerns or injuries yoga can be very helpful when carefully and sensibly practiced. Modification may be required to ensure it is suitable. All of our teachers are experienced at working with a wide range of health issues.

If your unsure, please chat to the yoga teacher in advance of coming, simply click on the teachers name to get a link to their contact info.

At Bristol YogaSpace all of the yoga teachers specialise in the therapeutic application of yoga. Health limitations can be accommodated as long as we know about them in advance and can make the time to work with you. Sometimes private lessons might be recommended initially. Or a quieter class where we can work with you more individually. This would
help get you started with your practice and explore ways of moving and practicing that suit you.

Can I make up missed classes that I've paid for?
Some teachers let you move your class in advance. Check first before booking with the teacher if you think you may have to move your session.

Do I need a yoga mat?
We have plenty for you to use. Some people prefer to bring along there own. Both are great.

Do you have space to get changed?
Yes we have loos you can change in.

Personal belongings & phones
We have space to bring your valuables into the studio with you. Please turn off all phones (not even on vibrate - it is still really loud in our tranquil space).

If you do leave anything behind at the studio, let us know within a month so that we can hold on to it for you. We donate unclaimed items to charity from time to time.

Where can I park my car?
We have a small car park for 5-6 cars and easy on-street parking in the surrounding streets.

Where can I park my bike?
We have plenty of bike parking at the studio.
