What do we need to do to get started?
We are happy to discuss how to get started, with advice on whether yoga or Pilates at work would be right for you. If it seems right, then a first session time is agreed to suit you and the payment details are agreed. You can book in a trial lesson to see if your staff enjoy it.
An experienced yoga or Pilates teacher will come to your workplace about 10 minutes before the agreed time to help prepare the space and ensure it is suitable. They will get your staff started with an initial lesson to get everyone involved. Advice on space, kit and participants is readily available and we'll even come to your workplace to discuss further. What space will we need for the yoga class?
A clean, clear space is needed for a class. Tables and chairs can be moved aside to clear a space or foyers or other open plan areas are fine as long as there aren't people passing through at the time of the class. The floor can either be carpeted or hard flooring. If carpeted, mats may not be needed. Each participant will need about 2m long x 1m wide, so a space that is 5 x 5m will allow space for 10 participants.
Do we need special kit?
Yoga kit can be minimal and we prefer it that way. You don't need any at all if you have a clean carpeted space and would rather keep it simple.
Yoga mats are preferable, although not essential. One mat per person is helpful. Mats are stored rolled up and then the teacher or participant can lay them out before the class.
Foam blocks are also useful but again by no means essential. They help support some poses and make them more accessible to some people. If you are taking a long-term view, then 1-2 blocks per person is recommended.
We can recommend where to purchase mats. Get in touch to find out more.
What do we wear?
Special clothes aren't needed to practice yoga. Many participants do prefer to change into loose/comfortable clothing that allows free movement, however this isn't essential. Yoga can be practiced in work wear if desired and we can design a class that is modest and doesn't ask you to sweat!
How many participants?
This partly depends on the experience of the group. If you are all beginners, then we would recommend a group size of no more than 12 so that you all get enough individual instruction to practice safely. If you are a fit group with some experience, the group size can be larger. A smaller group will get more personalised instruction from the teacher, so small groups are great too.
How long is a class?
Classes can be tailored to suit your schedule. Commonly they are an hour or so, but can also be 30 minutes or somewhere in between. We are flexible and design the lessons to suit you. You could arrange a 45 minute class, or 2 x 30 minute classes to accommodate more participants in the morning or during lunchtime. An hour is common too - so see what time you feel you have available.
