Yoga classes with Clara work to stabilise and revitalise body and mind. You will learn how to work closely with breath-centred practice and develop a mindful approach to practicing yoga. The classes are slow, flowing and closely linked to the breath with meditative space and pranayama. The classes progress your skills and experience over time to support your engagement with some of the more subtle aspects of yoga practice.

Viniyoga uses traditional yoga postures, breathwork and meditative techniques with time in the practice for suitable modifications or developments where needed. The yoga classes welcome all levels of ability and experience, and everything is taken step-by-step. I support practitioners to explore challenges to their own level, offering challenging or more accessible options and layers of technique as your skill develops to ensure your practice is intelligent, engaging and effective.

At the end of each term a home practice handout is offered to regular attendees which are intended support you in establishing your own home practice. I'm a big advocate of learning how to practice effectively in the class so that you can start to develop your own yoga practice at home. My classes support this and I also meet 1-on-1 where helpful to tailor your practice so that it is safe, effective and efficient (10 minutes a day can be well worth it!).

Yoga is very adaptable no matter what your level of experience, fitness or mobility. Some situations might benefit more from a one-to-one approach rather than a group class (unless it is a very small group). I apply the tools and techniques of yoga to suit your situation and have worked across the health spectrum from Olympic athletes to those with limited mobility and multiple health issues.

I also teach appropriately adapted yoga during pregnancy and offer yoga therapy, working with individuals to help a wide range of health issues. I mentor other yoga teachers to support them in their yoga teaching and regularly lead yoga workshops and teach at yoga conferences.

Here is what some of my students say about my classes:

"A totally enjoyable experience"

"Thanks for getting me on track with Yoga. I've had so many false starts with it in the past and finally I feel like I've committed fully and I'll be a Yogi forever. :-) All thanks to your gentle yet thorough teaching and the relaxing and refreshing atmosphere in your studio!"

"My Osteopath who recommended your class, has remarked that he hasn't seen this much improvement in my spine and back health after only a few months, than in all the years I've been seeing him."

"I do love your classes and the breathing aspect has helped me very much. You have a very soothing voice which does go a long way to reducing anxiety."

"I finally found something that I have been looking for for years! Wish I did it a long time ago. Thank you Clara.

"I feel stronger after classes physically and mentally and for days afterwards."

"Brilliant classes, essential weekly de-stress."

"You're a great teacher and I've found I finally understand about the breath now"

Yoga training
I've been practising yoga since 1998. I came to it when living in New York with a stressful job, and I found it immediately gave me more energy and made me feel stronger and calmer, even on hectic days.

My yoga teacher training was an in-depth 4-year yoga training course with Paul Harvey who is still my teacher, and I have a yoga teaching diploma from the Centre for Yoga Studies, accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga.

I've also undertaken specialist extended study in
- Yoga therapy
- Pregnancy / prenatal yoga and post-natal yoga
- Yoga for children
- Yoga, mindfulness and meditation
- Yoga philosophy, esp. Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
- Alexander technique and yoga
- Ayurveda
- Chanting

I'm a teaching member of the British Wheel of Yoga, a teaching member of the Association for Yoga Studies and qualified as a Yoga Therapist to the level required by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. Qualified to Level 4 REPs (register of exercise professionals).

I'm committed to continuing my yoga studies and take regular continuing professional development training and also participate in yoga community activities to further develop my knowledge, practice and experience.

I've explored different yoga traditions, primarily Viniyoga. I have also spent time practicing and studying Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga, and Scaravelli yoga.
